| DÉCOVER magazine Montreal... Scott Ferry |
[Nov. 4th, 2009|04:30 pm] |
I will pleasantly be in this issue of DÉCOVER magazine. (inside 2 page spread) The print version should be coming out today and the online version is currently up. (see below for links and distribution info) I am excited to see it in print.. have only seen the electronic versions.
Décover is a window into Montreal visual arts. Each issue will showcase ten portfolios to discover the creativity of today's artists. Décover to escape, to fill up with wonder, to grow along with rising talents. Our wish is to celebrate urban art with all its diversity, from painting to photo montage, from photography to sculpture, from illustration to graffiti. Décover is a platform for fine local treasures that will pleasure your eyes and spirit.

Found out about this several weeks ago and was intrigued by the possible changes it added to the story of Stonehenge. History can be as pliable as the future sometimes.

Archaeologists have discovered Stonehenge's little sister - just a mile from the famous monument. The prehistoric circle, unearthed in secret over the summer, is one of the most important prehistoric finds in decades. Researchers have called it 'Bluehenge' after the colour of the 27 giant Welsh stones it once incorporated - but are now missing.

Having just finished again The Case of Charles Dexter Ward as part of groupread on Goodreads I managed to dig into it again from another perspective and maybe a deeper one. Of course as always in reading Lovecraft one has to come to grip with the materialist and scientific attitude of Lovecraft writing something with occultism which he supposedly despised, but nevertheless comes off automatically to call forth some real experience if only through dream. Such is the Lovecraft paradox. Why choose him as a vehicle to download such interesting occult concepts and such succulent imaginative worlds to explore. Well in my search for links between Lovecraft and where he called up his research from I found this nice little text online...

Now i have not yet read The Necronomicon Files, but it would be curious to eventually read this.
In a final note: I have to admit that a groupreading on Lovecraft is sometimes frustrating as some of the back and forth chat gets into the obvious area of what was Lovecraft's belief and why was he writing on the occult when he hated it.. haha... and it goes on.. you can imagine. I still have no idea why Lovecraft became a medium for this facet of the occult world when he had no belief in it.. but i can only imagine that he was the first true bridge between science and magick. By maintaining a stout disbelief of the occult and more conservative belief in science itself yet writing on the subject and dreams that dug up deep mysteries and psychological interests .. this contrast produced the interest to merge science and magick into the next level of research and possibilities. Maybe it gave some of us a real interest in exploring through the new tool of modified belief structures.

If anyone has anything further to add to my commentary here please write me. It is rare I find people willing to delve into the subject.

Yokai Den: Nekome Kozo (Legends of Japanese Monsters: The Cat Eyed Boy) was one of the rare gems to use this style of Geki-mation. Little is known of its twelve episode run from back in 1976, though it still purportedly exists on a Laser Disk in someone’s attic. Thankfully someone had the forethought to archive it on Youtube before disk rot set in. |
